Roast magazine is thrilled to announce the six finalists for the 22nd Annual Roaster of the Year awards!
The Micro Roaster category includes companies roasting less than 100,000 pounds of coffee each year, and the Macro Roaster category includes companies roasting more than 100,000 pounds annually. The award winner in each category will be announced on Monday, Oct. 20, and featured in the November/December 2025 issue of Roast magazine.
The Roaster of the Year awards recognize companies that roast coffees of excellent quality, exemplify a dedication to sustainability, promote employee and community education, demonstrate strong involvement in the coffee industry, and a commitment to diversity, inclusion and equity, among other criteria. Micro Roaster of the Year Finalists
The three finalists in the Micro Roaster category are listed below in no particular order, with information obtained from each company’s award application.
Three Keys Coffee
Based in Houston, Texas, and founded in 2019, Three Keys Coffee is a family-owned roastery and cafe that blends music, art, and coffee into a multi-sensory experience. Led by Kenzel and Tio Fallen, the company operates Houston’s first solar-powered roastery and supports certified and direct-trade coffees while prioritizing accessibility and education. Three Keys is recognized for creative marketing, community programs, and a collaborative workplace culture that emphasizes benefits, training, and inclusion.
Dessert Oasis Coffee Roasters
Established in 2009 in Rochester, Michigan, Dessert Oasis Coffee Roasters (DOCR) operates as both a roaster and cafe group with multiple locations across the state—now roasting and headquartered in Ferndale, Michigan. Founded and led by Nathan Hamood, DOCR invests heavily in team education and community engagement, offering in-depth training through its Education Department, and focuses on direct sourcing, transparency, and a multifaceted sustainability program. The company’s roasting and service approach emphasizes consistency, hospitality, and meaningful local partnerships.
Kafiex Roasters
Based in Vancouver, Washington, Kafiex Roasters is a roaster-retailer and wholesaler operating two cafes. Founded in 2018 by Matthew and Seidy Selivanow, Kafiex is a Clark County Green Business known for sustainability innovations (including a zero-waste specialty instant line), a Diedrich roaster outfitted for reduced emissions, bilingual education programs, competition coaching, and an expanding training facility. Their emphasis on bilingual community education, direct relationships with producers, and low-waste product design highlights a commitment to equity, quality, and accessibility.

Nossa Familia Coffee
Based in Portland, Oregon, Nossa Familia Coffee — whose name means “Our Family” — operates cafes and wholesale programs and is B Corp certified. The company, founded by Augusto Carvalho Dias Carneiro, emphasizes ethical sourcing, regenerative agricultural projects, packaging innovations, and long-term producer relationships. Nossa Familia invests in employee wellbeing, professional development, and local community programs while prioritizing transparency and shared prosperity.
Driftaway Coffee
Founded in Brooklyn, New York, by Anu Menon and Suyog Mody, Driftaway Coffee is an immigrant-owned, woman-led roastery that focuses on making coffee personal and educational through a direct-to-consumer subscription model and virtual tastings. Driftaway publishes full pricing transparency, supports women- and minority-owned farms, uses compostable packaging, and donates to World Coffee Research. Their combination of subscription innovation, farmer-forward sourcing, and educational programming supports equity and accessibility.
Corvus Coffee Roasters
Headquartered in Denver, Colorado, Corvus Coffee Roasters takes a direct, relationship-driven approach to sourcing and roasting. Founded in 2010 by Phil and Autumn Goodlaxson, the company is known for multi-year producer partnerships, a Farmer Focus Program, and strong internal training and benefits for staff. Corvus emphasizes storytelling, public engagement, and initiatives that support gender equity and inclusion across its operations.
